How Long Does it Take For a Broken Finger to Heal?
Question Posted Friday April 20 2012, 11:51 pm
Ok so I was playing football and it bent my finger backwards and I got it x-rayed and I have a 1.1mm fracture (a broken bone) and they put it in a splint for a week. It looks like a nail file attached to my finger with tape (nothing special) and I dont think it will heal within a week. Well will it? I know the docter said it would but I honestly dont trust him. Wont it still be broken? (Btw haha, I broke my middle finger) =P

The recommendation from the doctor was to keep the hand elevated at all times to keep the swelling down. Talk about freaking out each and every teacher I had. I'm sure now that I'm older and can reflect on it, that I could have found away to sit in class without being so obvious. But heck I was 14 or 15 at the time and being able to sit in class and give the one finger salute and get away with it was priceless.
To answer your question. The healing begins almost immediately. As to how long you will need to keep the splint on can vary from 1 to 6 weeks depending an how badly the fracture is and how fast you heal [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]
