Hi, everyone. I'm 12 years old and I found out sometime last year that I have scoliosis. I wear a brace now, but this is my fourth brace as the first three did not work. My curve is around 35 degrees, I was curious as to whether I would need surgery or not. Thanks for your help!

If your concern is about the after surgery pain or the surgery itself. Then, if and when that time comes, you need to have your list of questions prepared for the doctor to answer. The better prepared you are the less scary the surgery will be. As for the pain, there will be some pain after the surgery that will diminish as the days go by. The doctors will give you medication to help manage the pain.
The end result though, should surgery be decided upon, is that in the end you will stand straight and tall. As well as live a life free from what ever pain scoliosis may bring.
For now do not focus on what may not come. Focus on the brace and whatever you are told to do to straighten and strengthen your spine. Focusing on what may never come is counter productive. Focusing on what you have control over is the productive thing for you to do at this time. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]

I have scoliosis too, and my curve is 37 degrees. That is considered mild-moderate. I found out I had it when I was around 16 and I had already gotten my period, so the doctor told me I was done growing and the brace wouldn't help. He also said the curve was not severe enough to need any surgery.
Right now they are trying to correct your curve, and most importantly make sure it doesn't get worse. If they can maintain your curve at the degree its at, then you shouldn't need surgery.
Keep up to date with your doctors appointments and your brace.
