Carriebeca answered Monday September 12 2011, 10:21 am: A nurse can be a lot of things to different people. People have different expectations of what a nurse should be; obviously no-one can meet all of these expectations, so what one person will find helpful, another won't.
Nursing used to be just a vocation, now its a job as well; nurses, like most people, have to work for money to support their lifestyle and family.
A nurse works to provide care for those who need it, using her training and skills for their best interests.
I would describe a 'good' nurse as one who cares, cares for her patients, their families and whoever else comes into that range of caring. She might have to adapt herself to fit a patient's expectations but does so willingly, believing it will benefit that patient's care and health.
