Self teaching guitar?

Question Posted Tuesday August 30 2011, 9:32 pm

I'm 18 and I'd like to learn something new, I really love all sorts of music and I'd love to be able to play the guitar. If I were to print out the tabs and music reading guide is it possible to teach myself? Any tips welcomed.

My brilliant answer:
Its sooo eazy to teach urself. I went to and still go to ultimateguitar.com when im feeling lazy and just want tabs. Reading actual music is better tho. I found it easiest to learn on violin. But, yeah i go to ultimate guitar. Its pretty self explanitory. (i dont think thats a word but im usin it.) So yesh its hella easy to learn guitar.

Also look into guitar tutorials on Youtube. You'll find instruction in all sorts of styles. I particularly recommend videos by Keni Lee Burgess. He's a NYC street musician and teacher, and his videos really break down blues guitar into its basic components. Good luck.

Yes! I taught myself :)
I wasted so much money having teachers teach me when I could have been teaching myself all along.

I suggest you learn these chords: G,D,Em,Cadd9,Am,A

You will be able to play so many songs with just those chords.
Also, buy a capo. It changes the key of the song.

Sure it is! I leaned to play clarinet that way back in school. All you do is practice, practice practice!
