Things may have changed some since my son went through college so bear with me a moment while I go through what I think your saying.

You said financial aid is paying for all but $3,500.00. To me this mean that they were able to find Pell grants and Scholarship funds to cover everything but the $3,500.00. These funds have to come out of your pocket or from a student loan.

If I am correct in my assumption, the financial aid center should be able to help you apply for a Federally funded student loan. These loans are low interest loans that you pay nothing on until you graduate. When my son filed for these loans I did not have to co-sign for them; the loan was guaranteed by the Federal Government and issued through a major bank. I realize that in the past years since my son applied for his loans a lot has happened in the financial world, but student loans are still available.

Go back to the financial aid center and ask them how to apply for a student loan. They should have the forms there and be able to assist you in completing them. You apply for these loans each year when you know how much you need for that years tuition and other school related items.

I hope this helps.
