can long term vaginal infections mess with the reproductive system

Can long term vaginal infections such as yeast infections that last longer than normal or BV mess with the reproductive system? I'm only 17 years old at the moment but I do plan on having kids some time in my future. I have had this yeast infection for about two months ( even though that's way to long for a yeast infection to last and I'm beginning to think its something else)and it won't go away. I just want to know could this possibly mess up my chances of having kids in my future?
Only a doctor can diagnose you and give you the proper medication to clear up whatever you have.
Trust me, save yourself some grief and go to the doctor. I'm 18 and I've had 2-3 yeast infections in the span of a year and it's so uncomfortable.
Heres a tip, DO NOT get the monistat 1 day treatment. It is a one use suppository, and because it is supposed to work fast, it is super strong. It literally made my vagina itch and burn for over a day. That irritation can aggravate the vagina more, causing more infections. If you do use one of the over the counter treatments, get the ones that take a week, so it's as gentle as possible.
Never2bAlone answered Monday July 4 2011, 1:19 pm: Since it's only been two months it's not very likely that this infection has done any real harm. HOwever it is very important that you go see a gynocologist ASAP.
On the other side of things I belive that if you have treated this infection as a yeast infection and it hasn't left there are two possiblities going on with you. The first: if it is indeed a yeast infection you might have an auto immune disease which can be treated. I have an auto immune disease "lupus" and it causes me to have yeast infections that won't go away from time to time. The other and more likely answer is that you don't have a yeast infection but something else.
My first guess would be that you have a bacteria infection that is easily curable or you might have an STD clamydia and/or gonorrhea. Both of these are easily curable as well. So, don't worry too much. A quick visit to the doctor will more than not give you an answer right there in the office or just a couple days later over the phone.
I don't think you have anything major to worry about. But, if it is an std now would be the best time to start practicing safe sex. Although clamydia and gonorrhea are easy to rid of unfortunately other stds aren't that simple. So, take precautions EVERY single time.
Relax and don't worry. You're reproductive system should be ok as long as you go ahead and make an appointment for the first avaiable time slot. Take care, and you will be fine I promise :) [ Never2bAlone's advice column | Ask Never2bAlone A Question ]
