It is very possible your brother has sleep apnea. This is a very serious condition. If your parents are not aware of this then you need to inform them.

Your brother needs to be seen by a pulmonologist and his asthma doctor to decide what is the best way to treat him. A sleep study may be requires. As someone said this is a non invasive study done while he is sleeping which will allow the doctors to decide on the best course of treatment.

Breathing on and off is very common for people who have sleep apnea or any sort of sleeping disorder, Many people who have this problem should seek treatment as it can be or become a serious problem.

The proper treatment can help your brother relax and get a better nights rest as well as helping with bad snoring which is also common for people who have sleep apnea.

I know it is no fun to wear a mask at night but it is better to seek treatment then to take any chances. Your brother needs to seek and keep on treatment because I'm not trying to scare you nor your brother but sleep apnea can be deadly if not treated properly.

He sure could have. Have you said anything to your parents about it? He needs to get a sleep study done. I have sleep apnea myself & the test is easy enough to get. His regular doctor can probably set it up for him.

He will go into the sleep study place and spend the night. They will put little wires all over him but they don't hurt or anything. Then some people will monitor him while he sleeps. Easy as pie.

If he does indeed have sleep apnea, they will get him a C-PAP machine he will have to wear to sleep in. That can take a while to get used to, but he will get a much better nights sleep.

Say something to your parents.
