social attitude

Question Posted Thursday June 16 2011, 4:00 am

my attitude depends on the kind of people getting along with me or people i get along with...

but sometimes it irritates me and just thought
"why do i have to be not myself when dealing with these people? what will i get for faking myself...?
i'm tired faking my smile and holding back my thoughts and my real feelings. why can't i just be myself?"
what should i do?

-17 male, asian

There is a difference between being yourself and simply being polite, You don't have to like someone to be polite.

If you are talking about hanging around someone whom you feel you need to pretend to be someone you are not then just start being yourself more. If someone can't appreciate you for who you are then that would be their problem. Nobody should have to pretend to be someone they are not to make someone else happy.

There will be times in your life where you will just have to deal with people you don't get along with. (Example: School/Coworkers etc.) This is just a part of life, We can't avoid people forever. Even so, This shouldn't keep you from being yourself but someone like your boss would be someone whom you want to try and get along with.
