Im 13 and I still dont have my period! Is something wrong with me?

Question Posted Saturday May 14 2011, 4:37 pm

Hi! Im Gracie, my names Melinda but people call me gracie. Im a girl(obviously. Im 13 and I still dnt have my period. My sister Melissa got hers a few months ago and we're identical mirror image twins, were supposed to be,physically, just alike! Most of my friends have theirs too! My dad says that all girls get it sooner or later, but hes a boy so im sure he doesnt kno much about stuff like this. My dads girlfriend katie says that its jus bcause im small for my age but Lissa's small too! I kinda dnt want my period bcuz when Lissa got hers she cried and said it hurt real bad. Im scared. But its still not fair that Lissa got hers before me. I dnt really want my period but I wish Lissa didnt get hers either she gets everything first. Why dont i have it yet? is something wrong with me?

The best life to lead is one where we love ourselves for who we are and don't envy others. The start of your period is genetically determined, so nothing you can do about it. You're you and everybody else is them. Relax and let everything happen in its own time.

This is completely normal! Your period could come tomorrow or when you're 14!I know it seems like you and your sister should've both gotten it at about the same time, but just because you're twins, doesn't mean everything you girls do/get will be at the same time!

Once you get your period, you'll feel silly for even writing this...feel lucky you haven't been cursed with PMS yet! Don't feel envious or jealous that she got her period first, you're definitely luckier in this instance!

I remember I wanted to get my period too, and I remember thinking "I have the wider hips and growing breasts, so why haven't I gotten my period?!"...now I wish I'd never ever gotten it!

Your sister's right, it does hurt! And it's an annoyance and the idea of it is just gross!

Best of luck when you get it, sweetie!

Don't worry, Gracie, it's perfectly normal to not have your period yet, even if your twin does. Everyone's bodies mature at different speeds, for example I got my period when I was 9 (which is just as bad as getting it late, you feel pretty alone in both situations), while two of my really close friends don't have it yet (we're 15). They're small, just like you describe yourself to be, but I also have small friends that already got their periods. It does have to do with your size, but just because your small, doesn't mean you're gonna have to wait 4 years to get your period. You never know, you could get yours any day.
Also, your period isn't necassarily going to hurt. For some people it hurts, while for some people it feels totally normal. The pain is just small cramps in your abdomin, and they're nothing to be worried about. Sometimes just starting your period can be the scary part. However, if your periods (when you get them) turn out to be very painful, talk to your doctor, and you can get pills to make it hurt much less.
Good luck!
