really like this guy but he's not looking for anything

Question Posted Sunday May 8 2011, 3:35 am

So there is this guy that I recently met, and we have been talking a lot. I mean everyday for hours. I am really interested in him, we get along great and have a lot of similarities which makes me like him more than I could have imagined. And it SEEMS as if he is into me too but he says that he isn't looking for anything. I honestly respect that, but I also wish something would happen between us. So my biggest thing is should I just let it be, or should I try to spend more time with him and see if things go anywhere? As of right now we have plans to hang out a few times with friends, but where should I go from there?

I learned from a guy that said the same exact thing to me. DO NOT get close to him in THAT way if he's not looking for anything. Because if you get close, something happens and you fall for him, then you only have yourself to blame because he said he wasn't looking for anything. If it's possible for you to just remain friends with him then by all means do so, but if it's not then walk away before you get hurt. Thats the best advice i know how to give. However if he ever does seem to change his mind about "looking for something" then thats the time to make your move! But DO NOT , I repeat DO NOT get close to him in that way. If your one of girls that can hang out with a guy with out getting close then hang out, but if your like me, you wear your heart on your sleeve then it's not a good idea. Good luck to you! -Christy

The last guy who answered is partially right. He might be gay, but he could just be emotionally introverted, or he might be healing from a breakup.

Let's look at the totals:

1. Talk to you for hours without making a move on you.

2. Says he isn't looking for anything.

Here is why this guy is likely gay:

Heterosexual guys are results oriented. They like to cut right to the chase. So they generally don't like to spend time with women they don't intend to get with and therefore usually don't actually like to sit there for hours while a girl yammers on and on about stuff they don't care that much about. But by putting up with it they often hope it will be a basis by which they will be able to get with you. This strategy usually fails and is the hallmark of the nice guy too afraid to get to the heart of the matter and bust a move.

However, gay guys are different. The gay male brain is somewhat more like a female's, according to studies (a demonstration that being gay isn't a choice, but something innate). So this guy likes you as a friend and is engaging in somewhat female behavior through allowing him to become a vessel for your self disclosure (which is how women bond with each other). Consequently, you are wasting your time with this guy if you think this will turn into anything romantic. However, you may get a great friendship out of it. It just depends on what you are willing to settle for here.
