Possibly infected rook piercing?

Question Posted Sunday April 3 2011, 1:43 am

So, on Tuesday I got my rook pierced. All very clean, professional, they used a hollow needle, I've been there before, blah blah blah. But on Wednesday, the bottom ball of my barbell fell off. I couldn't screw it back on because a) the rook is in a really awkward place and b) it was tender from JUST being pierced. I ended up going back to the piercers' the same day so they could fix it. My piercer screwed the ball back on but in the process had to twist my ear super painfully to get it tight and to make sure that it would stay on. Since that day (it is now Sunday)my ear has been red, puffy, and extremely tender. I'm terrified that I've gotten an infection. I'm doing all the recommended sea salt soaks and cleaning it. I've never seen any pus, nor has it bled. I just have the normal "crusties" that are light yellow. But it hurts worse than any piercing I've had. I would go back to my piercer and ask him to take a look at it, but the place is REALLY far away and sort of an inconvenience to drive to. So, do you guys think the piercer just irritated it (maybe tore it a bit)? Or could it be infected? :(

Thats really weird, the EXACT same scenario happened to me.. On Tuesday, This week (3 days ago)
i got both my rooks pierced. shortly after leaving the shop i noticed the bottom ball on my rook had fallen off. i went back the next day and had my piercer screw on another ball, which AGAIN fell off. it was really tender and hurt alot while he was putting it back on.
now for the past two days i've experienced a throbbing pain. if i spray h2Ocean spray on it it'll temporarily relieve the pain, but i'm unsure iof how to clean such a snug piercing, especially sinc eit's so tender if anythig touches it it hurts liek fuck.
Thankyou to the guy who answered thism, that was helpful. Ithink I'm going to return to my piercer in the next few days and see whats up and get some more advice. It's a very beautiful piercing and i would hate to have to take them out :(

I'm a body piercing/tattooist so I hope my information can be of some help.

Your piercing is just irritated since your piercer had to be a little more "rough" to keep the ball from slipping off again. It's nothing to be worried about since it happens a lot (I have clients come in asking the same question(s) you are) To help relieve your piercing of the pain, try taking an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever such as Ibuprofen, as well as keep it clean using either ear care solutions, dial or proven soap (non scented). When cleaning your piercing with soap, lather your hands with the soap, and apply it to your piercing sliding your piercing in and out to work the soap into it, and rinse thoroughly under running water sliding the piercing in and out so the water "rinses" the soap out of the piercing. I hope I was able to help to some extent. :)

Sometimes there are certain places that just can't be pierced for certain people.

I've had my nose, lip and eyebrow etc. Some worked out and some didn't.

A rook piercing can take up too a year to fully heal, If you are experiencing some serious pain then more than likely your piercing is infected and needs to be taken out.

I had my nose pierced several years ago, This sounds like the same problem I had. I went back to the place and the dude told me...Some people just can't have certain piercings and sorry to tell ya dude but I don't think the rook piercing is feeling ya...

Instead of going back there go see a doctor at a walk in clinic and let them look at your ear to see if it's infected or really bad and then do what they suggest. This shouldn't happen with normal piercings and your thinking there is a problem probably means there is.
