I don't like my geography teacher this year!!!

Question Posted Friday March 25 2011, 12:26 pm

This might be long. Sorry. 13/female
(NOTE: I am a very loud person! & I'm tall 4 my age)
In 5th grade I had a teacher who was so happy and cheerful about everything,(not that I'm not a happy person, I am, it's just that nobody is that happy every minute of every day!) she didn't really give us enough work (as in we didn't learn anything, and if we did it wasn't much), just straight up, she was a bad teacher. I don't think she even knew her job was teaching kids to not still leave her class knowing the same stuff they already did when they first came in. I mean, she's a TEACHER. She is a pushover too, and that made it worse. Some people even got away with not turning in work. Whenever I would ask her about a project she would be laughing with another student and I couldn't've gotten her attention, even if i was right in her face. I could've stood right next to her for 10 minutes straight & there would still be a croud of people still talking 2 her. I got so frustrated I just gave up & I ended up getting a low grade on something. She was the language arts teacher so I guess it didn't really hurt my grade overall much because I did all my homework and anything else I could do without help, especially my own teacher!

Last year in 6th grade I had a great geography teacher. He would get us to draw maps, we always get homework that didn't take too long and was due on every Friday. We learned A LOT and had fun at the same time because he would walk around the class telling a story or talking to us about whatever it was he was teaching that day, or we would make mosaics and hang them up all around the school. And we would take notes with music on. He was a great geography teacher.

But now this year i have the same teacher I thought I was over with in 5th Grade! She gives us the answers to tests on a piece of paper to copy on it and then she lets us use it on the test. How are we going to learn like that? That's just cheating in a new way! She didn't change at all! What makes it worse is that my old geography teacher is right across the hall form this year's geography teacher, so when I go to my geography class, I want to turn the other way and not into the geography class I usually have to go to.

So, I guess what I'm asking is how do u think I can get my tacher switched with my old one? Or even get her fired? There are a bunch of kids that think the same thing.
Thanks in advance!

Wow, I wish I had that teacher. Tell someone what's going on, that's all I got. Good luck!

In my opinion, you must not stand for this, and must make your voice heard. After all, this is your education. You NEED this education, you need a good teacher, not a friend. You have an excellent attitude about this, im sure some kids will think "this is good...no work...all play...why complain?".

My first step would be to report this to the principle, or someone of a similar authority. Do you have an anonymous system of feedback? Maybe all the kids with the same mindset could write a letter to the principle, or the head of department if you have one.

Also, maybe you could talk to the Teacher you like? the good one? Ask if there is anyway you can change group (if this is possible). But the best thing to do it to write a letter to the principle, or talk to them. I have taken the time to write you a general outline template. to make things simpler, I will call the bad teacher Mrs Smith, the good teacher Mr Old, and the principle Mr Prince. Obviousely, change the names to what they really are:

To Mr Prince
I am writing to you in reference to Mrs Smith. Me and a number of other students are unsatisfied with the level of teaching provided by her, and feel that we can no longer go on with being taught by in such a way. **insert all the problems with the teacher here**.

I am sure that you will understand the importance of a good education, and i am sure that you will take matters further, in the best interest of me and my fellow students, as well as our parents, who we have also informed about the issue.

Thank you,
Your Name

Make sure you put the Parents bit in, it will 'scare' the principle, as parents are seen to be able to make more of a difference. Also, tell your parents, let them know of the problems.

Hope i helped :)
