I've heard about John Casablanca's, and I've heard some good and some bad things.

I've heard that they make you take classes, which some people found were worth it and helped improved their skills and confidence.

On the negative side, I heard they don't guarantee to get you any jobs and some people feel ripped off.

When you come across these agencies that pick up girls at the mall or other public places, a lot of the time it's a scam. In this case, it isn't necessarily a scam, but it isn't the traditional agencies your favorite celebrities have been selected by. Anyone who charges an arm and a leg to 'represent' you has ulterior motives to make money from you.

The top modeling agencies don't charge you nor do they require you take classes (though some agents may make suggestions that will better your career, such as speech classes for actors or a new hairstyle for a model). Generally you have to audition for them, though in some cases an agent will spot a potential model and give her their card.

You could work with John Casablanca's, but realize that there is no guarantee you will earn your money back. And also read the fine print; these agencies will take a certain percentage out of anything you may earn from a job. Be very careful in this industry.

Good luck,

-Abby

If you're an unknown, modelling agencies will charge you money to start.

Why is this? It costs them money to find you jobs. They have to pay people to contact companies and promote you. They will also likely provide counselling services to help you improve your modelling. All this costs money.

The only time when it's worth it for them to sign someone without an initial fee is when they're an experienced model who is in high demand. Even then, the agency gets a cut of the model's pay. You have to spend money to make money in the business.
