Can a person with fine, thin straight hair get a perm or will it damage it?

Question Posted Monday January 3 2011, 12:40 pm

I have really straight hair that is fine and thin. I take care of it but I wish I had curls. I totally love curly hair. I was thinking about getting a perm one day but my friend said that my hair would break off since it's so fine and that I'd be better off just leaving it the way it is. My hair pretty hard to curl since it's so straight and I also wonder if the perm wouldn't hold because of that?

Anyway, is it possible for a person with fine, thin hair to get a perm or will it damage it too much and break it all off or burn it?

Thanks.

dont get a perm there are much easier and faster ways that you can get a curly hair. check this out you might find it useful its got several videos of how to get nice looking curls without using any products or heat or anything like that. its really easy. heres the link [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

note: the perm will in fact damage your hair and that worse part is you cant get your old hair back once you do it. search for disadvantages of perms on google and you'll get a whole list of them.

Hey,

Once upon a time, I had beautiful, long, straight hair but was dissatisfied because my closest friends rocked afros. So one summer, I was in Bangkok, and decided to get a perm done. I got it done, thankfully only half the length. The lady who did it told me not to wash my hair for three days. Final result? AWESOME CURLY HAIR for about a week. Then -- frizzy hair, split ends apocalypse and hair breakage. It took me over THREE YEARS to get back to my normal hair (a LOT of haircuts and tears). It's definitely one beauty mistake I will always regret. The perm will hold the hair temporarily, but it will also kill the hair. Best of luck!

hey! well take it from experience! i naturally had really tiny thight little curls and thick lush hair and always wanted it straight since i was small! so i started to straighten it and eventually it just lost its curls and went inbetween wavy and straight but still very healthy and kind of thick, and when i got to my 20's i missed my curls, so i went and got a perm, which i loved, at the start, then it began to fall out in clumps and i eventually just shaved it all off and now a year later my hair has grown back quick enough considering the condition, my hair is really thin and unhealthy and still has that annoying kink. So basically if a perm didnt work out in my naturally wavy hair then no i wouldnt recommend a perm for your hair. There are loads of new ways to give it a wave and shape! you could even get non-chemical hair extension for more body and fullness, which iv also tried since my hair grew back, although its still a little short but i will get more in, the best ones to get are Keratin hair extensions! :)
