Picture display in Firefox vs IE

Question Posted Monday January 3 2011, 6:50 am

Hello everyone,

I have a question about a website I am setting up. In it, I display a model that I built in Word and then converted to a jpg.

You can see it here:

Now, the model displays pretty much perfectly when viewed in Internet Explorer and horribly in Firefox (the writing is very unclear).

I am at a loss. I tried all manner of resolutions, different picture formats (in fact the current incarnation may not even be a jpg - however they all display the same), converting the image in different programs, etc. No matter what, I cannot get it to display legibly in Firefox yet it always displays well in IE.

My hatred towards Microsoft products is in danger of being shattered :)

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hey,

I use Firefox, the model looked good, slightly small and when I clicked to view the larger image, it was crystal clear. This isn't really an advice - but - here's something to keep in mind:--
Images when printed: CMYK color mode, 300dpi
Images when screened: RGB color mode, 72dpi
Not really an advice, but felt like letting you know that it works with me. (Maybe it's 'cause I'm on a Mac? Don't know.)

I did a little checking on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit system with both Firefox 3.6.13 and Internet Explorer 8x installed.

- As you said, the image displays fine in IE, but is pretty bad in Firefox.

- I saved the image from the website, and opened the local file in both browsers with the same result.

- I opened the image in Corel PSP Pro Photo X2, and saved it as a .JPG. The result was the same.

- I opened the file in Faststone Image Viewer and checked the file specs:

4958 x 7017 : 34.79 MP : 2.00 MB

- That is quite a large file! I think that the issue is with good ol' Firefox, which doesn't know how to correctly scale. (I love Firefox, but have run into a couple things that it just doesn't do very well.)

- I opened the file in Corel PSP Pro Photo X2, resized it to 1280 x 1817 pixels. I opened the file again in both browsers, and this time it looked ok in Firefox.

You want to experiment with the best size for the image, or try a slightly different code that may help Firefox do what it's supposed to.

Try something like this, (adjusting the size as necessary):

<img src="[Link](Mouse over link to see full location); width="1024">

EDIT: This site is messing up the string that I pasted in. Here is the txt of the full, unbroken text:

I hope that helps!
