Jobs for socially phobic?

Question Posted Monday December 6 2010, 6:43 am

I need to know what jobs are good for these kind of people. I cannot work in retail or some place with a lot of people :/ Just big places...freak me out.

I'm currently trying my best to go to school to be a travel agent, or a pet groomer...

Have you thought about at home phone work? Many companies look for people to answer customer questions and complaints or take orders from home. Or, since you're planning on going to school for pet grooming why not try working in a veterinary clinic or at a local pet shelter. Incidently, social anxiety disorder is a very real disability and there are medications available. Please talk to your doctor. He or she should be able to help you.

Hi!

I'm not sure if what you mean by socially phobic. I know I have anxiety problems, I always feel like people are judging me and looking at me when I'm outside. It was hard finding a job because every job I've worked at involved me having to socialize with the customers. I currently work in an office, answering phones, filing, e-mails, etc. I despise using the phone to call people, that's where my anxiety kicks in. But if you really need the job, you'd do what you have to. I sure did lol. It also depends on your age. I'm assuming you're in college, being that you're studying to be a travel agent. Though there are many jobs out there that don't require you to have much social interaction, you'll still have to overcome those troubles, considering you'll have to go to interviews and make it seem like you're friendly and comfortable. Good luck, and I hope I've helped!
