Boyfriend's friend got him in trouble by lying to the police!

Question Posted Monday November 8 2010, 9:43 pm

my boyfriend is 21. he has this greattt friend who is 23. this is in florida. the friend is going to jail either this month or next for violating probation. well one day recently the friend asked my boyfriend to borrow his truck to go to the store, and my boyfriend agreed. while at the store, the friend stole something and was caught by surveilance and taken to jail, then released. this morning detectives showed up at my boyfriends door and took him in for questioning because this awesome friend of his told police that my boyfriend knew about the whole thing and was a part of it, and it was his truck, when really my boyfriend had nothing to do with it, was not there, and had no idea his friend was going to steal something. he's waiting for a call about their court date thats supposed to be within the next two weeks, and im worried for him. it'll basically be his word against the friend i guess, but can they charge him for anything since he wasn't with the friend when he was stealing and knew nothing about the whole ordeal? he has a suspended license right now for not paying off tickets, but other than that has not been in trouble with the law. any idea what could happed? i dont want him to go to jail and/or get charged for something he didn't do.

I am almost positive he won't go to jail. He may get charged as an accessory to a robbery, but not sure what else they could charge him for.

Hopefully, his lawyer can convince the judge that he had no idea what his friend was planning to do and was just being a kind friend, by lending him his truck.

Good Luck :) Hope everything works out for him and you! ♥
