Should I give up trying out for club volleyball because I'm short?

Question Posted Monday November 8 2010, 6:10 pm

I'm a junior and I've been on Junior Varsity for 3 years. I play Outside Hitter and I have good hits, good serves, and my passes have improved every year. I played club in 8th grade and would love to do it again this year. But I'm afraid because I'm only 5'4"-5'5".. and I want to tryout for this club in Dallas, TX: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Do you think I should? I have no idea what to do. I'm really committed and everything but I don't want to embarrass myself. I don't know why I wasn't on Varsity this year, ugh. Half the sophomores and all the other Juniors in volleyball are in Varsity. I want to get better for the next volleyball season though, and show people that I have improved a lot. But I'm kinda afraid to be playing at the 17s level cause what if everyone is really tall and out blocks me all the time? I can block even though I'm short but there is still a disadvantage

Ugh what should I do? does that look like a good club or should I think about going somewhere else.. do you have any suggestions? thanks

I'm only around 5'4"-5'5" too! But, anyways...you should try out for the volleyball club in Dallas. Sure, the girls may be taller than you, which is an advantage for them, but it sounds like you're pretty experienced with volleyball. Don't let the taller girls intimidate you and don't let the fact that you aren't very tall scare you away from trying out for the volleyball club in Dallas! This is a big oppurtunity! Take the oppurtunity while it lasts! For all you know, it could change your life! Just because you aren't as tall as the other girls doesn't mean that they are better than you. For all you know, you could be just as good as them or maybe even better! But, even if you don't make the volleyball team, atleast you tried. Trying something is better than doing nothing at all! ALso, you could still be proud of yourself for being brave and facing your fear!
