I dont wanna like this music my friends like
so all my freinds like hip hop and rap but i think its kinda stupid.i like metal better.i also look like a headbanger too like i have a mowhawk,slipknot jacket, and the whole nine yards, but im kinda startin to like those other stupid songs but i dont want to.i couldnt imagine dancing n stuff to that kinda music and i feel weird when they play it but i really am starting to like it so please give me any advice possible.

I have to say, I embrace all kinds of music. I have an eclectic taste so I can see where you're coming from here.
Haha you can call listening to rap and hip hop a "guilty pleasure" of yours. You don't want to like it, but you can't help it. You can just listen to it in the privacy of your own room and don't tell others about it if you don't want to!
But I think it's good to be open-minded about all genres of music. Even if you don't like the genre as a whole, you may like certain songs from that genre, but it just won't be your favorite. Your favorite will still be metal. I don't see anything wrong with liking Slipknot and, for example, KiD CuDi at the same time. See, your heart will still lie with Slipknot, but you still occasionally listen to KiD CuDi. Whether you public admit to it or not, it's your choice.
I used to be all "you can't spell crap without rap," but it's not cool to make fun of someone else's interests because you wouldn't want them to make fun of yours, right? It's a good thing that your friends have different interests and help you venture out of your comfort zone music-wise.. introduce you to new things. I would take it positively. You could also show them metal too, they might even like it!

dont base your friendships on music..
i have friends who like completely the opposite music i do. I have friends who like classical/orchestra music, i have other friends who like rap, i have other friends who like techno etc etc etc.
it just means that you have a unique group friends. and you know what? that's a good thing..
at my school, we have so many cliques. there's the popular group with basically listen to rap and hip hop only. then there's the band geeks who like weird music. my school is so cliquey its not even
you should be proud that you have friends who like different music. we need different in our society. dont be ashamed of the music you like. wear it like prada and be proud of who you are.
if you do like their music, then thats ok! there's no law that says you have to be against it. but there's no law that says you have to be in love with it. just like what you like and dont let other people influence your ideas.
also, dont let this whole music issue distract you from your true friends. if your friends like hip hop, dont push them away because of that. in other words, be friends with them for who they are. not for what kind of music they like.

Slipknot is not a band whose purity in your taste pallet you need to fight for or preserve. Listen to what you enjoy.
If you were listening to kvlt and tr00 metal like True Norwegian Black Metal from the mid 90s, things would be different. But you're not.

thats funny because i am totally in the same boat. most of my friends listen to basically whatever is on the radio and popular at the time... hip hop, rap, some pop stuff. and that music is fun and theres nothing wrong with finding yourself jamming to it. its catchy. but i love metal as well...basically stuff my friends cant stand. i think its cool to like different music as well as music your friends like. nothing wrong with that!

There is really nothing wrong with liking different kinds of music. Music isn't about what genre it is, its about how it makes you feel when you listen to it. So its not like your doing anything wrong by liking metal and r &B. You are just discovering new sounds
