Guys get hardons all the time. Sometimes they will get hard even if they aren't thinking about sex or looking at sexy women. Sometimes it just happens.
If he wants you to notice then all you have to do is look at his pants more often. His crotch will, obviously, rise and make a little tent, as they say.
If it's that you were, say, grinding on him and didn't realize he had a boner then you're missing the entire point of grinding. Grinding is to sexually arouse the other person. The man will get hard, the woman will feel it, and it's even possible to get off doing that sort of thing. It's rather disgusting, if you ask me, but, hey, what do I know?
If it's that your boyfriend wants you to notice so that you'll do something sexually with him when he gets a boner then talk to him about it. Express to him that you simply cannot spend every waking moment of your life staring at his penis. Sometimes he's just going to have to say, "Hey...something is pointing at you!"
