Best maxi pads for period that don't cause a rash or irritation
Question Posted Thursday October 21 2010, 10:36 pm
I DO NOT WANT TO USE TAMPONS
Please do not suggest tampons
What are your favorite brands of pads? I am looking for a good one because the Always brand gives me this weird uncomfortable rash I hate dealing with every month when I'm already on my period and feeling lousy. It like makes me feel raw sometimes when I wear this brand of pads. I try to keep myself clean and dry but this particular Always brand pads always seem to chaff me. So, anyway, what is your personal recommendation?

Peeps answered Sunday October 24 2010, 1:50 am: I, personally, prefer the Seventh Generation pads with wings. They are whitened without bleach and have no icky things like rayon (which leads to dioxin exposure) in them. I use to get a bad maxi pad rash but after I made the switch the 7th Generation my rash has completely faded away and I no longer feel how you describe during my periods. The pads that I buy are through VitaCost and cost about the same as the Always brand. Definitely try them out.
Seventh Generation
I use the overnight with wings kind
They even make tampons if later you do choose to give those a shot [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]

I think the one that's been pretty safe for me is Stayfree. Make sure you don't get a scented one, because often those cause problems.
Also, I recently used a Kotex U pad in a pinch, and it didn't do anything.
If you're freaked out about tampons because of the risk of TSS, then I would definitely suggest my method of choice: the Diva Cup. It's a smallish silicone cup that you insert twice a day. You rinse it out and boil it at the end of your cycle. It's good for use for an entire year, and it's better for the environment. Also, you can forget about it for 12 hours, which is pretty sweet.
