when should i expect my next period after coming off birth control?

Question Posted Monday October 18 2010, 10:41 pm

Hello i've been on birth control for about 3 years now and my husband is going to be deployed for a year and we're going to try to have kids when he comes back so i wanted to get off birth control now to help my body become "natural" again. I've been off Yaz birth control for about a month and a half now and i still havent gotten my period. Is this normal? When should i expect it? Anybody else have experiences like this? Thanks in advance!

Okay my sister had the same problem and what she did she got off birth control and if she didnt get her period she would go to her dinocologist and they would see what was wrong with her but the only thing was that her body was so used to birth control it like stopped giving her a period for like 2 months and it scared her so she quit taking birth control for about 2 months and now its natural again. So my best advice is dont take birth control for about 1 maybee 2 months.

It's pretty normal, but you could probably call your gyno and find out exactly how long you can go without your period after before you should get worried and schedule an appointment.

This is pretty normal. It can take a while for your body to readjust after coming off birth control, especially if you've been on it for a long time, so it's difficult to give an exact time. I came off it after two years and it was about 8 weeks before I had a period but everyone is different. For now there isn't really anything you can do but wait but if you are still concerned, check in with your doctor to make sure everything's okay.
