I love my friends but how much help can I give, an How!

Question Posted Monday October 18 2010, 3:11 pm

I have a friend we've been friends for ages. He's got a baby on the way, but the babies Momma is in Jail. He's so afraid that he won't be able to get custody over his son, if his babies Momma is still in jail, when his son is born. Which should be in a couple of Months.
What can I do? He lives with me, and he doesn't have a job, but he's looking for one. He wants to do all he can possibly do to get custody of his kid, because he doesn't want the babies Momma's family to get custody because he's afraid he'll never see his kid. Her family hates him, and he doesn't like them, because they hate him.
The Babies Momma's grandma is who put her in jail, because she felt Babies Momma wasn't taking care of her present child properly. So apparently she has to do anger management and parenting classes, and she can't really get out of jail with out paying her bonds, and no one can do that for her.
What can I do to help him get custody of his baby?
What should I be doing to help him?
Someone please help me.

There's really not much you can do to help. He can try to talk to the child's mother to see if she'd be willing to let him have custody. If that doesn't work, he'll need to file a petition with the court to try to get custody of the child. He should do his best to get a job before that time so that he can show the court that he has a steady income and can support the child.
