A finger may be thicker than the opening in your hymen. Your hymen is what will break (cherry is just a slang term) when you engage in sexual activities. The motion of the finger movement could cause it to tear, too.
It's no big deal and it's perfectly normal to happen when you are fingered for the first time. You will probably bleed and it may or may not be uncomfortable. It doesn't mean the entire hymen has torn away though or that when you first have sex it won't hurt. You may still bleed later if it's not completely torn and sex may still hurt since your vagina will probably not be stretched very much by one single finger.
