My parents never taught me how to ride a bicycle but I want to teach my son and daughter (twins). They are 4 years old right now and they play around on a little tricycle all the time but I am wondering when I should purchase a real bicycle for them to learn how to ride? I know it's great exercise for kids and I'd really like to teach them while they're young. What is the best age to teach your child how to ride a bicycle? And since I have the money right now should I go on and purchase a couple of bikes for them? Thank you.

For now, since you still want them to be outside and have fun, try those little motorized vehicles that they sell at Wal-Mart. Those are fun. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

But I do remember that our eldest had trouble with learning to balance, pedal and all at once. We bought an old fashioned scooter, so he had to only learn 2 things at once. For him, it worked like a charm and we had the others learn the same way.
