Florida Universities?

Question Posted Saturday September 4 2010, 10:25 pm

Do I have a good chance of getting into any university at all in Florida? I've been looking at Catholic ones too.

My GPA is 74% (They didn't tell me on a 4.0 scale...), I currently take an AP course, I'm in an honors class, I've had good grades both 11 & 12th grade (my GPA is low because 9th and 10th grade was hard for me..), I'm in 3 after school clubs, I do some community service (a few hours in all; more will be done this year), I have really good recommendations from my teachers (about 3), In all I've had 4 years of math, 3 years of science (2 years with a lab), 1 year of a foreign language, 4 years of english, 4 years of history/social science, and 4 years of electives, I will be graduating with a Regents Diploma from NY, and I am retaking my ACT soon because I didn't like my first score. I keep trying to have confidence that a college will accept me, but it's hard :( I really hope one of them will...Thanks for any and all answers.

Your best bet is to speak with the school counselor at the college you want to attend. These people are GREAT for telling you if you're missing anything or if you're a good candidate to get in. You can do this by phone by just calling up the school and speaking to an available guidance counselor there on campus. If things seem good you can even make a little appointment to visit them in person, check out the school, and get more one-on-one help with sending in the application process.

Other than that, to me, it sounds like you have a fair shot. I'm not a college guidance counselor though. I haven't interacted with possible candidates. I haven't evaluated students for possible entry into the school.

Call up the ones you're interested in. The worst thing they can do is say, "Nope, you don't qualify!" but they, likely, won't even say that. They'll actually be able to help you figure out if you're missing anything in particular of if you can do something else to help boost your chances.

Here is a list of the universities in Florida that link you to the websites (through the websites you can find a contact number to call pretty easily): [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

And here is a more detailed list you'll want to look at when making your calls:
