You didn't say where in New Jersey to start from so I picked Newark. The nearest bus terminal I could find was Roanoke, VA.
Here is the current Greyhound fare:
Departing: Sep 3, 2010
From: Newark, NJ
To: Roanoke, VA
Miles: 485
Departs: 10:10pm
Arrives: 09:35am
Depending on how you book it, it will cost between $89.76 and $115.00
Best I can do by train:
Departs: 7:05 AM
Fri Sep 03 2010
Newark, NJ (NWK)
Station News Arrives: 4:05 PM
Fri Sep 03 2010
Clifton Forge, VA (CLF) Clifton Forge, VA
Clifton Forge
(CLF)
Station News PT9H Duration: 9 hr, 0 min
For $243.00.
This is what I was able to find via the web just be going to their sites:
These places have people who specialize in getting you where you need to go. Please consider calling them, as they have far better tools at their disposal than anyone here will. :-)
The numbers:
Greyhound fare information: 1-800-231-2222
The Amtrak Service Representative line: 1-800-872-7245
If you get an automated help system at either, just do what it says to talk to a real person, especially at Amtrak. They have great people who will really try to work it out for you.
