Picking a name for my new gender

Question Posted Wednesday August 18 2010, 9:33 am

I'm 17 years old and I'm transgender (ftm). I have a really feminine Spanish name right now, but I've been wanting to change it for starting my transition. I was thinking something like Ari, or Adriel, since they both sound like my middle name and they're unisex, which I like. My first name starts with an M, so a unisex name starting with M would be good.
I'd like to change my name to something that sounds nice with Lopez, which is my last name.
If you have any ideas for Spanish/Italian sounding names that would be awesome and they don't even have to start with an A or an M. Thanks in advance (:

Ooh, I love picking names. Here are some Spanish names that I love and what they mean (which is often why I liked them):

ALEJANDRO: Spanish form of Latin Alexandrus, meaning "defender of mankind." (short form Alejo)

ANDRÉS: Portuguese and Spanish form of Greek Andreas, meaning "man; warrior."

ARTURO: Italian and Spanish form of Celtic Arthur, possibly meaning "bear-man."

ELOY: Spanish and Portuguese form of Latin Eligius, meaning "to choose."

LEANDRO: Italian, Portuguese and Spanish form of Latin Leander, meaning "lion-man."

MARCIAL: Spanish form of Roman Latin Martialis, meaning "of/like Mars."

MATEO: Spanish form of Hebrew Mattithyah, meaning "gift of God."

MARCELO: Portuguese and Spanish form of Roman Latin Marcellus, meaning "defense" or "of the sea."

RODRIGO: Spanish and Portuguese form of Old High German Hrodric, meaning "famous power."

This is the list I looked at, in case you want to take a poke:
