concerned for my best friend my best friend plays a sport with me, shes really good at it and so am I. But even when she makes a couple mistakes, she beats herself up about it. She has meltdowns and gets so upset. I used to be able to help her but now we live in different towns, but talk constantly and always visit each other. I just dont know what to do or say to help her. I've told her that it's not a big deal, she's good, etc. but nothing works. Help? Ps. she's had a bad past of cutting and problems with family. Shes getting over it now, and we are closer than ever, but Im convinced her past might tie into this situation.

Trying to convince her that is no big deal is for nothing. I had a friend like that so I know how it feels. I started distracting her... by going to her favourite place. If she looks to happy it means that maybe it's not working but only you can see if it is working or not. A best friend for that.
I am sure that once you get her to understand that the past is past and that the future is still there to be created she will get better. If this doesn't work I don't know what to say to you... But I will ask around other cases like thius. So don't get hopes up.
never... P.s ]
