ashey answered Thursday June 17 2010, 3:34 am: Menstrual cramps are caused by uterine spasms, which are very powerful and may temporarily deprive the uterus of oxygen.
Discomfort of the lower abdomen can be relieved with warm water bottle and a hot water bath will relax the uterus.
Running, jogging, swimming and cycling will help to reduce cramps. For more details you may visit: [link removed] [ ashey's advice column | Ask ashey A Question ]

I also have found that as crazy as it sounds and as much as you are not going to want to do this at the time, exercise helped me a lot. Like when your cramps get bad do a bunch of jumping jacks or go for a quick jog or do a work out video or even yoga and stretches.
But really, if you can, go on birth control! Mine used to be so bad I would miss school and be doubled over in bed all day crying. I still get them but it is soooo much better. [ Jumpercutie2009's advice column | Ask Jumpercutie2009 A Question ]
