Meaningful ideas
I want a tattoo. I want it to mean something. I've been through a lot of things in life and all my friends think I'm a very emotionally strong person. I dnt want any stars, hearts, or flowers. I don't want it to be that visible because of work. I'm a female by the way. Thanks in advance :)

Honestly.. you can find tons of people with sayings and bible verses and names etc.
Have your tattoo mean something, have it represent something important in your life, but make it unusual. Make it something unique.
Visibility was answered in other questions.
Ask friends or family, because they're the ones who know you best. If you need inspiration, google tattoo pictures. Get ideas, but please, MAKE IT YOUR OWN. :)

Is there by any chance a quote that is important to you that has really helped you get through your obstacles? I think that would be the best thing to get. You just have to think of what has really spoken to you - whether it be a bible verse or a quote from someone you admire.
As for placement, the best places to get a tattoo you want to cover with clothing are your back, your hip, your ribs, your shoulders, etc. If you usually wear your hair down at your job, you can get it on the back of your neck because the hair will hide it.

Have it somewhere that is easy to cover up such as the top of your arm, back, hip, shoulder or neck if you have long hair.
Have some words or maybe a lyric / quote that is meaningful to you.
Or like sometthing like "everything has beauty" and like a butterfly or something
or a quote such as "Life is pleasant, death is peacful its the transition inbetween thats troublesome" OR "In the end its not the years in your life that count. its the life in your years".
Google search meaningful quotes and find something which means something to you

its got to be something that means something to you in person, no one can really tell you what to get, what about words?
has any one given you advice that has stayed with you or a word that has gotten you through your life stresses? or maybe there is a symbol you have always like and that you treasure a lot?
but i cant tell you what to get because i dont know you, why dont you ask your friends what they think, the ones that have been with you through the hard times. you could always get something that means strength.. maybe above an animal that you think is fierce or strong.
for example...
i want to get a tattoo and i have decided to get 'love friendship sisters' on my wrist in italian, this means a lot to me because im italian and i think its a beautiful language and also iv been through a lot with my two sisters and they both are getting the same tattoo. so it will be something we can share forever.
