i did some research for you and a stomach virus does effect the small intestines

The virus enters the stomach and intestine and inflames the lining of these organs. As a result, the stomach and intestine are temporarily unable to perform their usual functions. The virus can also cause food to move more rapidly through your gastrointestinal.

but the way you can help this is by

Drink plenty of liquids. A stomach virus often results in you vomiting or having diarrhea. If the diarrhea is very bad, then you have may become dehydrated. Drinking plenty of liquids such as water or sports drinks can help to replenish and hydrate your body. It will also help to get you well more quickly. If you get very dehydrated, you may get put in the hospital and put on an IV.

Step
2Take acetaminophen. Many people experience a fever that can run up as high as 104 degrees F. Taking a dose of acetaminophen can help to lower your temperature. Acetaminophen can also work to ease aches and pains associated with a stomach virus.

Step
3Get rest. When you have a stomach virus, you may feel tired and drained of energy. Getting plenty of rest is one of the best ways of treating this stomach virus symptom. You body heals itself while you are sleeping and this goes for when you are sick, too. Not getting enough rest can actually keep you from getting better.

Step
4Eat soft, bland foods. With a stomach virus, you don't need to eat anything spicy or fried. Foods like gelatin, crackers and toast sit easy on a sick stomach and should be eaten. Chicken noodle soap is another food that won't upset an already sick stomach. Sometimes, though, your stomach can't handle any food. It's at this time that you should just drink plenty and not worry about eating until you're ready.

Step
5Use a heating pad. Stomach cramps sometimes accompany a virus. While acetaminophen can help to relieve the pain associated with stomach cramps, another way is to put a heating pad against your stomach. Don't put the heating pad on high and then directly on your skin as it could burn you.
