is it normal for a teenage girl to get chest pain? ever experience this?

Question Posted Wednesday April 7 2010, 8:17 pm

Today i have been wearing an "emma" push up bra from the store aerie. it is the first day that i was wearing it. I was wearing it starting at 6:40 or 50. At around 11:40 in spanish class, the upper left side of my chest began to pinch and sting. I have bad anxiety so i suddenly thought omg! what if i have a heart problem??" then i tried to get my mind off of it. Then the pain moved to the left and back to the right. it caused me to burp and feel nauseous. thats when i for sure thought that it was anxiety until i thought about my bra. me and my friend traded bras in the girls bathroom because her's wasn't a mega push up bra. My chest felt slightly better but then came back worse within minutes. I live in new jersey so it is normally cold and now it is turning into spring. Maybe its allergies or my asthma? i have seasonal asthma only when allergies get bad. i have veryyy bad allergies. Do you think i pulled a muscle? dehidrated? ( weather increased to 86 degrees) i can't breathe out of my nose currently. What do YOU think is wrong with me? I will be seeing a doctor probably very soon but what do YOU think?

Your bra was probably just too tight. If a bra doesn't fit properly, it can cause all kinds of discomfort.
The rest of it is most probably just your anxiety. You build yourself up for some thing to be wrong, when you're fine. I don't think your asthma or allergies are causing your chest pain. I don't think you pulled a muscle by wearing a new bra. I don't think dehydration is causing your chest pains.
Take an allergy pill because I know (in my area at least) the pollen is like HELL this time of year. Drink a bottle of water. Switch to a more comfortable bra. Also, you might want to get measured the next time you go bra shoppping- maybe you need to switch band or cup sizes. Oh, and remember that push up bras are hardly ever comfortable for long periods of time anyway... at least, that's been my experiences.

I think you're making this way to big of a deal. If you have allergies already or some form of asthma and then you were wearing a mega push up bra it probably just means your chest was constrained adn your bra was too tight causing you to have even more trouble breathing which caused the pain in your chest because your lungs were working double time trying to get oxygen and they had trouble expanding because your bra was constricting them. Try not wearing the push up bra for a couple of days and then if the pain comes back go and see a doctor. Happens to me a lot when I wear a really tight bra. Good luck. Hope I helped
