Is an electric toothbrush better than a regular manual toothbrush? I saw this ad on TV about a cheap electric toothbrush for $15 and I've been thinking about buying it. I heard that electric toothbrushes are better for your teeth for some reason but then my friend said that they aren't and that they will damage the teeth. I am confused and don't know what to think. I don't want to damage my teeth. Which is best for my teeth?

I don't know which toothbrush you saw, but electric toothbrushes won't damage your teeth if used properly.
I have a sonicare (it's quite a bit more expensive but I personally love it). When I first changed, I noticed a huge difference in how clean my teeth got. It was weird adjusting to it at first, it almost tickled. But once I got used to it, it was like that fresh from the dentist feeling every time I brush my teeth. It even is timed so you now when youve brushed your teeth for the recommended full 2 minutes (although you can stop it early if you want to). I would definitely recommend a sonicare, and I would imagine most electric toothbrushes are better than regular manual ones.
Even though it is expensive, I figure it saves you money (and pain!) when going to the dentist and not having to worry about cavities :] ]
A toothbrush is meant to remove plaque and stimulate your gums so it's more about tecnique than the type of toothbrush you use. The good thing about manual is that you can feel how much pressure you're using. With an electrical toothbrush you can’t feel that as well. Applying too much pressure on your teeth can be very detrimental. It can wear away at the tooth enamel which in return can cause pain, sensitivity, and puts you at an increased risk of tooth decay.
The recommendation seems to be that if you prefer to use an electric toothbrush you should also get a pressure sensor to tell you how much pressure is too much. ]
the only reason i can think of that electric toothbrushes would be bad for your teeth is because since the bristles spin using a battery, sometimes the toothbrush will bump against your teeth, which can crack enamel. but they are good for you, too. they get rid of more plac than manual toothbrushes, and just all around give you a deeper clean. its like the difference between using your hands and using a loofah to wash your body.
hope this helped. ]
