> DO NOT DO NOT DO NOOOOOOT stress out about dieting and controlling your eating and your figure etc etc etc. Studies have shown that restrained eaters (people who put constant limits on what they eat) are at higher risk of bringing this guard down when something negative happens. For example, you're on a super strict diet, something bad happens, you're super stressed. Chances are, you will turn to high-calorie foods. Even stress caused by being on a super strict diet or body image can cause this. So please please try not to worry too much about every ounce of food you consume or your weight. Because this can stress you out insanely and cause you to GAIN weight.
> Portion size, portion size, portion size. They tell you that it's all about WHAT you eat, but a great part of gaining weight is how MUCH you eat. For example: French people's diets have much more total fat than Americans', and yet a higher percentage of Americans is obese. (This is called the French Paradox.) Why is this? American restaurants serve much more food (portion size is about 25% greater, I think). Are the French being underfed? No. The thing about eating is that feeling 'full' isn't only triggered by high blood glucose levels. It's very psychological. They did these studies to see how much soup a person can eat before feeling full. Half the group was given an ordinary soup bowl. The other half was given a 'bottomless' bowl, in which a pipe underneath the table was connected to the bowl and pumped more soup into it. So the amount of soup in the bowl stayed constant no matter how much a person ate. Anyway, the results: the people with the bottomless bowls ate much MUCH more than the people with ordinary ones. Why? The amount of food you have influences how much you will eat. I'm not saying that if you put a single grain of rice on a plate, you will feel full after eating it. But if you're the type of person that eats an overflowing plate of food, then seven scoops of ice cream for dessert ( <= i do this.), reconsider. Eat a LITTLE less. Trust me, if you eat 4/5 of what you usually eat, you won't notice a difference in the food but a difference in your weight.
Anyway. Honestly, I think the best weight loss method that ISN'T detrimental to your health is exercise. I'm saying this because I've been there and I FREAKING HATED thinking about shit like "I can't eat ice cream. I can't eat cake." etc. Although eating healthy + exercise is great, exercise alone is fine too. Just go for a jog every morning. It'll help. Or go to a gym. If you go with friends, it will be fun :) Friends will entertain you and keep you going. Schedule it so it becomes routine.
If you need more motivation than that, if you REALLY are overweight or just want to be a little bit slimmer, why don't you buy a pair of pants one size smaller than what you usually wear? So if you're feeling too lazy about that morning run, you can just htink to yourself how goddamn awesome you'll look in those pants. When eating food, eat whatever you want. It sounds crazy, but if you eat food that you dont like..like..salads, then you'll just give up right? So when you do eat, pick it up/cut a bit off, take a bite, then place it down. For example, if eating a burger or a slice of pizza, put it down. If eating something using a knife and fork, put them down. Upon putting them down, chew 25 times atleast. Savour the flavour in your mouth. Every biteful, just concentrate wholly with whats in your mouth. Watching the tv while eating will distract you from doing this, So eat at the table.
Then, upon swalloling, do it all again. But pay attention to your stomach. When you are full, STOP! put the food away in the microwave or fridge, and if you get hungry, eat again. But if you are full, then dont. Also, you can also eat a meal blindfolded. I gaurentee you will be full quicker, and will eat less.
Also, people sometimes eat(like i used to), because they are bored! When ever a commercial came on, id raid the fridge. When watching the show, i was ok. Therefore, try and keep yourself busy! Read, watch tv, pick up a hobby, whatever you need to do to keep your mind off food. Ironically, i started to cook alot more. I would'nt eat much of it however- for some reason, cooking the food will fill you up, and will turn your attention to COOKING the food, rather than EATING. I just left the food for the family to eat.
Also, are there no physical activities you enjoy? Swimming, even walking? Golf? Anything? if so, do it more often. Even doing the slightest of excercises (even cleaning) will be better than nothing. How about dancing? By yourself if you wish- blast your favorite tunes, and dance away! Its great excercise.
Excercises like running are difficult, usually because its boring and hard. Why dont you start to walk around the block? With the dog if you have one? Or with friends- just a gentle stroll. Then, slowly increase what you do. Jog, Then sprint, Then run. Maybe invest in a treadmill. Manual treadmills, are like conveyor belts, the faster you walk, the faster it moves. Its not mechanical, and so its cheaper.
