What about stun guns? Some months ago I was beaten and raped by a stranger. I feel lucky I wasn't killed. He has not been caught yet though I don't think it'll be very long till he is. I would like to get some protection for myself, just to feel safer, but I don't want to buy a real gun. I was thinking about stun guns but I don't know anything about them.
Would a stun gun be good enough to protect me against an attacker but not really hurt him? Would it be legal to carry one everywhere I go? (I live in the U.S.) If I used a stun gun on a person, could they file a lawsuit against me because of it?

Honestly, I REALLY don't know, but i would recommend carrying Pepper Spray around in a pocket! I mean, if the attacker comes, it's just, grab out of pocket, a few sprays in the eyes, and He,She's off!! L0l, lots of people carry it around for protection, and it's not that bad, but good enough of use to get Him/Her to get lost! ]
On more general principles, you might look into self-defense classes. Carrying a taser or stun-gun is part of the solution; another part is learning to be aware of your surroundings and how to act when you're panicking. If you're not careful, your stun-gun can be taken away and used against you. Look for women-specific self-defense classes; traditional martial arts schools will teach you useful skills, but don't always cover dangerous situations.
Hope this helps. ]
If you tell the authorities you want a way of protection, I'm almost sure it's possible to obtain at least a (small voltage) taser.
I'm not possitive, but pretty sure.
I'm praying for you to be safe, and for this freak to be caught.
God bless ya! ]
some info on a stun gun:
It is about the size of a cell phone and has two metal prongs on one end. Much like a cattle prod, the two prongs are thrust into the attacker's body or clothes. A trigger is pulled. Immediately an electric shock courses through the attacker's body. The charge released can be anything from 50,000 to 625,000 volts at a rate of three milliamps. That's enough to cause the muscles to spasm involuntarily, and violently, so that the attacker loses all control of his body.
Stun Guns are not considered firearms - they're legal to carry in AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT*, DE, FL, GA, ID, IN**, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WV, WY (including Puerto Rico and most of the Virgin Islands) without permits.
*Legal for home use, carrying prohibited.
**TASER subject to requirement of handgun license (35-47-8-4)
