I read somewhere that all humans have parasites and worms living within them and that they should be removed to lead a healthy life. I am really freaked out by this and I want the parasites out of my body!
How can I remove the parasites that are living inside of me though? Should I see a doctor for some sort of parasite-cleansing or human deworming treatment? How do I tell a doctor that I want to be de-wormed or something without them laughing at me? I'M SERIOUS!

If you're in the habit of eating a lot of cheap, rare meat or wild game, your odds of getting a round- or tapeworm are slightly elevated, but still small. You can ask to be tested for them, but I wouldn't seriously wouldn't bother unless you're noticing some kind of symptoms. On the off chance you ever do get something, large parasites are easily killed and pass through the system. Don't worry so much! [ Sageadvisor's advice column | Ask Sageadvisor A Question ]
Xenolan answered Wednesday February 24 2010, 3:46 pm: First of all, don't believe everything you read. It is a fact that all humans have bacteria living inside us; we would be dead without them, because they are essential to digestion. But parasites and worms? NOT. Wherever you read that, it sounds like someone's trying to sell snake oil.
But by all means, see your doctor and ask about it. Your doctor will absolutely NOT laugh at you; that would be grotesquely unprofessional behavior, and no doctor who legitimately earned their degree would ever laugh at a patient asking any sort of health-related question. Odds are, he will ask whether you are experiencing symptoms typical of parasitic infection, order some tests, and confirm whether you have any sort of parasite before prescribing anything.
And if it actually turns out you do have something, don't panic. If you had any sort of very dangerous parasite, you would have some unmistakable symptoms. These things are easy to deal with and not as scary as they seem. [ Xenolan's advice column | Ask Xenolan A Question ]
