Is Opium heroin or is it another drug completely??

Opium is the raw material extracted from certain species of poppy plant. When opium is processed, different drugs can be created, depending upon the level of processing and the chemicals used. Heroin is one of the drugs that can be created from processing, as is morphine.

Some people extract the sap of the opium poppies and mix it with tobacco or other substances and smoke it and derive a bit of a high. So in a way, I guess opium is a drug, but it's more often used as a raw material for creating other, more potent and well known drugs.
