Underground Artists does anyone know of any awesome Underground Artists of the indie/folk/rock persuasion ? I'm sick of mainstream and I wanna find some real good music, but I don't know where to look. So I figured I'd ask here, if you know any thanks

you can start by looking up soundtracks to indie films or just any tv show or movie with a good soundtrack like (500) "days of summer", "juno", etc.
other artists you should check out that are indie folksy: (some example songs)
- joanna newsom - "the sprout and the bean", "peach, plum, pear", "bridges and balloons", "sawdust and diamonds", "this side of the blue"
- devendra banhart - "lover", "little yellow spider"
- neutral milk hotel - "two-headed boy", "in the aeroplane over the sea", "oh comely", "king of carrot flowers"
- lisa mitchell - "coin laundry", "so jealous"
- tegan & sara - "frozen", "i can't take it", "nineteen", "speak slow", "where does the good go"
- built to spill - "car", "reasons", "center of the universe", "the plan"
(to add to the bottom answer).. personally i like the following songs:
florence and the machine - "kiss with a fist"
block party - "banquet", "blue light", "helicopter", "this modern love", "skeleton" ]
I don't know where you're from or what exactly you're into but here are some great British indie artists that I love who you may not have heard of:
Florence + the Machine - Amazing indie/soul-ish band fronted by Florence Welch, who has one of the best voices I've ever heard. I love her so much I have her name tattooed on my wrist.
Listen to: You've Got the Love, Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up), Dog Days Are Over.
If you're going to listen to any of these artists, she's the one I'd reccomend above all.
Bloc Party - Indie/electro-ish band, pretty easy to like.
Listen to: I Still Remember, Flux, Two More Years.
Laura Marling - Folky/indie singer/songwriter with a really beautiful voice.
Listen to: Ghosts, Cross Your Fingers, My Manic and I.
La Roux - Electro/synthpop duo fronted by Ellie Jackson who has a really unique voice. They're a bit of an aquired taste though.
Listen to: In For the Kill, Bulletproof, Cover My Eyes.
Jamie T - Indie/UK garage-esque, pretty unique and almost rap like with guitar riffs and samples from old reggae. Really catchy tunes.
Listen to: If You Got the Money, Sheila, Sticks 'N' Stones, Chaka Demus (the first two are from his first album and are slightly different to the last two).
The XX - Indie/chill out/dreamy band with beautiful vocals from their two singers, one male and one female.
Listen to: VCR, Islands, Heart Skipped a Beat.
Bat for Lashes - Indie/synth pop/dreamy singer/songwriter Natasha Khan who uses pianos, guitars and harpsichords in her music.
Listen to: Daniel, Sleep Alone, Pearl's Dream.
Marina and the Diamonds: Indie/new wave singer/songwriter Marina Diamandis. She's still relatively unknown even in the UK but she has a really different sound.
Listen to: I Am Not a Robot, Mowgli's Road, Seventeen. ]
The Wailin' Jennys is one of my favorite folk groups. You can check out some of their music on their website: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) ]
