bartenders
at a bar/club can you tip bartenders individually or is it more "proper/expected" to use the tip jar? i use the same bartender and usually just throw him a 5 or 10 on my first drink to cover my tips for the night, is that okay to do?

I prefer to tip the individual as tips from the tip jar either get shared out between all the staff or in some cases, used to go towards their wages. If I think someone is worth tipping, I tip them personally. The same goes with compulsory service charges at restaurants.

I would definitely keep tipping my bartender individually so I know they will be getting it. You can never be sure who is getting the money from the tip jar...
