Fighting hammies

Question Posted Wednesday December 23 2009, 3:37 pm

Well the title says all. My two hamsters are fighting. Alot. It saddens me to the death to see the marks they put on one another. They have been together for life. At birth, the pet store, and at their new home at my house. Some conclusions came to my mind, but I really want to know some other possibilities from different people. Thanks!

YOU MUST SEPARATE THEM. This happened to my 2 hamsters years ago and one ended up having a limp leg because the other bit it. Then we would go to play with the one with the limp leg and he would bite us! So please separate them! Also they can hurt each others eyes if they scratch each other's faces.

Hope this helped
good luck

It sounds like you have two hamsters that are the same sex. Regardless of them being two males or two females they'll fight. It usually kicks in when they reach maturity. It's the same with cats and dogs and you name it.

They'll fight eventually if the same sex. All you can do is have two separate cages or plastic environments they sell at pet stores. As far as being together from day one don't bet on it. Even if they were it doesn't matter to them or in the animal world even if you're a rodent. You'll have to separate them plain and simple.
