WittyUsernameHere answered Wednesday December 2 2009, 11:58 pm: You should not be douching. Previously in history, people were stupid and had little scientific knowledge, and so they let prejudice create assumptions for them.
One of those assumptions was that the vagina is a dirty place that needs to be cleaned, so they created douching, which sends plenty of chemicals up your vagina to sterilize it.
This, as it turns out, is a terrible decision. The vagina is its own ecosystem, with tons of helpful bacteria the keep you clean, and the absolute best way to clean yourself is with water. Just water, nothing else. Soap on the outside is fine, but inside you don't want to introduce unnatural chemicals, as you set the balance of your ecosystem off and can make yourself very vulnerable to things like yeast infections.
You do not need to douche, you haven't heard about it because for the most part people know its not a good idea now, people were just stupid enough that they used to think it was a great way to be hygenic.
