Move out.

Question Posted Sunday November 8 2009, 10:34 pm

16/f
about to turn 17 in 14 days.

I'm aware of what being "emancipated" is and I understands the circumstances of it, but I'm in a stressfull situation where I really am dying to move out of my house. My parents and I do not get along & what I mean by this is we disagree on everything & are always arguying about the littlest things. Now I know what your thinking..why not try talking to them ? Or get counceling? Well trust me I've tried . I know me being my age is going to make it difficult for me to be able to find rent anywhere else but I refuse to be here any longer & I really am looking for some positive outside advice..I'm not looking to fix things between me and my parents I simply just want to move out..I've been supporting my self since the age 14 and I have a steady job . I basiclly just come home and sleep . But I can't take this anymore I'm too stressed and there not making it any easier..please help?

Trust me I know exactly how you feel. I never got along with my parents when I was a teenager. I hated going home all the time. We always argued and never agreed on anything. I hated my life and wanted to get out as soon as possible. Now that I'm 21 and married in my own house I wish that I could go back to my parents house. Life is so much harder than I ever realized. I know things seem so hard right now and that you want to get out as soon as possible but just remember that in life you cant take things back once its been done. Once you get your own place you have to worry bout rent, utility bills, furniture, and lots of other little things that add up. Can you really afford your own place with just your job? Most teenagers your age with a job can only afford so much and your salary might not be enough. My husbands in the army and I work as a security guard and were barely making it. If you miss payments of any kind you have to be worried bout debt collection. But if you think you can handle it and your ready for it then you should sit down with your parents and tell them what you want to do. My advice your turning 17 and you only have 1 year before you turn 18 it might be best to stick it out or live with another relative. Just discuss things with your parents you might be surprised. Best of luck to you hun.

If you have any other family members that you could live with, I would contact them first. There are not many people that will rent out to a 17 year old. Search for youth shelters, here's an example of one [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) They can help you.

You can also look on craigslist.org for a room. I would figure out how much you're making a month and determine if you are able to pay rent. I don't know where you live, but I rented a room for $600 in California.

Happy early birthday.

Awesome, maybe youre just hesitating, if you think you can make good decisions at this time, go for it. But if youre just stressed and that youre desperate to escape, get your act together before deciding. Plan on it and take your time. Goodluck, and advanced happy birthday!
