Last night I spent Halloween at a friends house with a bunch of other friends, and I had a great time until everyone decided they wanted to watch Nightmare on Elm Street. Now I've never liked scary movies. Ever since I was little particular scary images would upset me and linger in my mind for several days or a couple of weeks. I barely was even watching the movie , I had my eyes covered almost the whole time. I don't care that I'm still afraid of scary movies, I hate them and I try not to see them at all. My problem is that certain images from the movie that I did see bothered me last night and I couldn't fall asleep. I slept on my parents bedroom floor last night, until 3 am when I woke up and decided to go back into my own room. But I'm almost 17 years old, it was completely ridiculouse for it to have to come to that. I know scary movies aren't real and I know that nothing wold happen. But even thinking things like that don't help. The images continue to upset me and when I accidentally start thinking of them it's hard for me to think of something else that easily. I go on gigantic rollercoasters at Six Flags with barely any hesitation, but I can't handle these stupid scary images popping into my head? I don't know what to do to block it from my mind and to stop it from upsetting me, and telling myself that it isn't real doesn't help as much as it should. What can I do to make the movie stop bothering me in the next few days?

My point is, I love scary movies to a point of addiction, but that's because I like to be afraid, afraid of something that won't actually happen. It's like an adrenillin, it realeases endorphins, like when you run, or do any other physical activity you like. It's a way to detress. In other words, there isn't anything wrong with you, you just latch on to those images because they bother you more, not because you are more afraid, it just seems that way. I mean, me, the movie buff, is afraid to talk to the person who sits beside her on the bus.. Everyone is afraid of something different. Besides, who cares if you're scared of horror movies, that's the whole point of them isn't it, no matter your age, or the business would go bankrupt.

I hate to sound too much like a psychologist, but I think maybe you should talk to someone about it. Like dreams, there may be a whole different interpretation of things.
If you don't want to go that far and think it's probably something simple, it might just be a phobia of yours that you have. Some people just have a low tolerance for what "scares" them. There's nothing wrong with that! [ Tiffanyy's advice column | Ask Tiffanyy A Question ]
