Is NASA really going to shoot a bomb into the moon

Question Posted Saturday September 26 2009, 12:01 am

If so, what do you all think about it and where is some good information on it? Thank you

Additional info, added Saturday September 26 2009, 2:31 pm:
Let me add that I knew it's not a weapon bomb...it's some kind of a dud, and Gunner's answer is the reason I am adding this...but he did clarify for me the size (nwo nasa's described size is bigger, but I'm wondering if a baseball is more in relation to the size of the moon? Anyone? Anyone?), so if there is anything elese anyone knows that would be cool. Ok this is right from NASA: The Centaur will act as a heavy impactor to create a debris plume that will rise above the lunar surface. Projected impact at the lunar South Pole is currently: Oct 9, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. EDT. The Centaur will excavate a crater approximately 20 meters wide and almost 3 meters deep. More than 250 metric tons of lunar dust will be lofted above the surface of the moon.
So what do you all think about this and how it will impact us and what it means for earth? Thank you.

The short answer: NO. Info: Mythical. It's nonsense filtering down through the Internet as it usually does or someone's idea of a joke or prank as the case may be. Absolutely, nothing to do with reality. If anything NASA's eyeing a return to the moon. They're always studying it and have found traces of water recently.

oh for fuck's sakes its not a goddamn bomb. they're taking a probe and smashing it at high velocity (by that I mean speeds measured in kilometers per second) into the moon to see if they can kick up any sign of water, whether it be vapor, ice, whatever they can get. the probe is likely to be no larger than a baseball, but at those speeds its kinetic energy will be on par with an anti-tank sabot round. check out nasa.gov for the full scoop. its not like NASA would waste precious weight margins to bring a few blocks of C4 on the mission for kicks.
