How do I get someone that hates me to like me?

Question Posted Thursday September 24 2009, 7:16 pm

Ok, so there is this girl at my school that I like, problem is, she absolutely hates me! In fact, since I sit next to her in Advisement, she makes a point of scooting her desk a foot away from mine the second I sit down! How can I change this and make her actually like me? Thanks, 8th grader male in the USA

If she's going through the childish trouble of moving her desk away from you, she's got you on her mind and is just pretending not to like you. She may have even convinced herself to dislike you for some obscure reason. But deep down, there's a reason she's paying any attention to you at all. As strange as this sounds, at your age, a girl that shows obvious dislike for you is better than a girl that's completely ignoring you.

What you do is let her know that her disliking you doesn't bother you at all, while showing her that you like her. This requires some self-confidence to pull off.

What you can do is the next time she scoots her desk away from you, give her a smile and scoot your desk away from her as if your teasing her. During class, you can strike up a conversation with her. Tell her a joke. Facetiously ask, "Are you sure your desk is far enough away from me?". Do these sorts of things with a smile on your face.

This will let her know two things. That you don't give a rip that she doesn't like you, while also letting her know that your not such a bad guy.

It will take some time, but eventually she'll come around. The most important thing is to let any negative reaction she has to your actions slide right off of you like it means nothing. Don't ever let her know that she's getting to you with her antics.

Well do you want her to like you in the way that she won't scoot away from you, like a friendly way?
Or romantic way?
Lets say friendly, well first have you done anything to make her not like you in the least?
And maybe you didn't intend to but, you never know.
Second you could try asking her why she doesn't like you, confronting her about her rude actions.
And third depending on steps one and two well, if you did something to offend her simply apologize. If she just doesn't plain like you or gives you a lowsy reason for the way she acts, for get it.
It's better to stay clear from people like that, they are no good for you. Hope I helped and good luck =)
