Question Posted Thursday September 17 2009, 7:21 pm
I am a 15 year old female, and I am on a diet. I just started a couple days ago. My goal is to loose 50 pounds in a year. I was wondering what are some exercises that will be easy for me since i am now back to school. I am usually really tired and don't want to do anything. I get home at about 5:30
ALSO by loosing 50 will it get rid of love handles?

To lose weight you need to change the way you eat permanantly, not just diet. Diets are usually impossible to keep up with. I suggest slowly making changes and incorporating healthy foods and trading out the bad ones.
Replace those junk food snacks with fruit. There are so many brand name products that have reduced sugar, fat, or sodium contents. Welchs reduced sugar Jelly is good, wheat bread is a great trade in for white, organic heinz ketchup, etc.
I eat when I'm bored, so when you want to eat something drink some water and wait 10 minutes. If I'm not hungry I find the craving will go away by then. Some studies show that smelling the good food is satisfying enough, but for me that would make me more enticed to eat it, so see what works for you. Some people need something to chew on, so try carrying almonds or carrot sticks or gum to munch on when you have that need.
I would try to get in a lot of cardio. That's the most important exercise. Walk, run, dance, jog, bike, jump rope, jump on a trampoline, get that heart rate up. 30 minutes a day is reccomended, and thats hard. I come home from school super tired and don't want to do anything.
I get more energy late at night so sometimes I go on the treadmill at 9 pm. You could wake up a half an hour earlier and take a walk.
You can find a lot of great videos online for training muscle groups, like abs, legs, arms, etc. That will help you tone up.
It's hard work but it's a good pay off, so keep going. Don't focus on the number on the scale, because that doesn't mean much. Two people can be 120 pounds and look completely different. Fit girls weigh more then you would think because they have a lot of muscle.
Find that motivation to work out. Some people can get into the zone when they run. Some people repeat a mantra in their head to keep them going. I really need my ipod and good music to keep moving.
