HPV F/17
A few days ago I had a follow up gynecologist appointment because my pap smear came up abnormal. During my colcoscopy, they found abnormal cells and therefore performed a biopsy. The gyno said there is definitely something there, and they'll do further tests to see if it's high risk or low risk, she says it's most likely low risk HPV.
The first guy I was ever with was a virgin, and the second I was with had been with a few girls previously. I contacted one of his ex gfs and let her know of the HPV because he was with me RIGHT after they broke up. Therefore making her the last girl he slept with before me. Her pap smear came out normal and she's fine.
My question is: they had sex 1-2 years ago, do you think she had HPV and her body got rid of it on its own? Because there's no way my first partner had it, therefore my second must have. I just have no idea why his ex gfs pap came up normal.
Any help is appreciated, sorry if it's complicated.

The best answer I can give is simply HPV is not always sexually transmitted. I don't really know all the causes, but even HPV that causes genital warts is not always sexually transmitted. I had a gyn tell me that sometimes the virus is latent in a person, and could even be there all her life, and can show up under stress.
Also, "most likely low risk HPV" does not mean that it is even HPV at all. They will need to check further. I recently learned not to freak out over initial tests because I had something show as possibly an STD and it really worried me. Turned out to be absolutely nothing, and I lost a lot of sleep for no reason. Wait for the final results, then discuss potential causes with your gyn if necessary. ]
