Getting Marriage License in Iowa, Ceremony in Michigan
Question Posted Sunday September 6 2009, 10:20 pm
We are planning on getting our Marriage license in Iowa and it's good for 6 mos and I was wondering if we can still have the Ceremony in Michigan where our family is. I know a judge there and I would like to perform it in MI at a family members house and that way our whole family doesn't have to fly to Iowa...can I do this? Thank you.
You'll want to call the Clerk of the District Court's office, which is where you'd usually go to get the license printed up. They'll know for sure, because this is definitely something you want certain answers on. You sure don't want to have the ceremony only to discover you weren't legally married.
