I've fallen in love with old rock and metal, whilst steering away from most modern metal and rock I listen to.
I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend some bands such as Saxon, Iced Earth, Kiss, early Judas Priest, Helloween, Skid Row, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper, Dio, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Ozzy, etc.
If it's a less known band, it's fine :)
Oh, and no Anthrax, I really aren't a fan of them.
I think I might be just a tad heavier in my preference than you (I am more for Maiden/ Priest/ Sabbath than Kiss/ Motley Crue), but I will list a few bands I think should be ok.
Running Wild
Accept- Somewhere between AC/DC and heavy metal
Yngwie Malmsteen
Manowar- might be too heavy, but their earlier stuff (pre 1990) was not as hard.
Check out also the album Tatooed Millionaire by Bruce Dickinson (from his solo stuff).
Oh and there is also Samson (the band Bruce was in before Maiden). Not so easy to find though sometimes. Heres a random youtube vid if you are interested:
Matt answered Wednesday September 2 2009, 6:10 pm: No Anthrax!? You have no taste.
Try something heavier, like thrash metal. Anthrax is thrash metal but with falsetto vocals, at least with Joey Belladonna. But try Metallica, Megadeth, Nuclear Assault, Forbidden, Heathen, Suicidal Tendencies, Coroner, Dark Angel, Exodus, Sepultura, etc. Those are all classic thrash.
